join the fold and the core
upon entering github universe the attendees were greeted by two massive scenes of hot air balloons over san francisco. attendees were invited to create their own to join the flock of balloons through filling out a survey. each question customized the look of the balloons. github research also was given a realtime dashboard to curate some of the answers to two of the questions attendees could answer about tips and tricks and projects they were working on, that displayed for everyone to see. at the end of the event, github research was also able to receive a spreadsheet with all the data from the surveys. attendees could also get in on the data analytics just by viewing the balloon designs themselves.
the user experience was also fun as they could see the balloons being created in realtime, and upon submitting the survey, they were able to see it float off the touchscreen and into the projected wall.

the core
this installation was an immersive and realtime visualization within an almost 360 degree projected room. attendees were invited to input their github usernames and the particle field sprung to life into a data visualization displaying the users contributions to reinforce githubs role as the core network of the developer community. using github’s own api, we were able to pull and visualize realtime stats, activity, repositories, and contributions for each developer. presumably, throughout the event a developer would be able to come back and see the way their activity throughout the event had changed the visualization for them.
